Eri King (b. 1986, Kagoshima, Japan, lives and works in New York, NY) is a conceptual artist working in various modes such as installation, sculpture, textiles, drawing, video, sound, and painting. She draws on the vast reservoir of the banal, unnoticed, and repetitive actions as a way to increase the visibility and perceived value of these overlooked aspects of lived experience. Often exploring her own lens as a first-generation immigrant of mixed Asian heritage raised in Las Vegas, her conceptual framework examines the interconnectedness of seemingly disparate subjects and cultural narratives as a way to unpack the associations and perspectives of established American customs. Working out of a syncretic methodology of disciplines, King’s assemblages of cultural references, everyday materials, detritus, and time-intensive hand-made processes utilize deconstruction as a means to look at something familiar in a new frame.

Eri King received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art & Art History at the University of Las Vegas, Nevada, and her Master of Fine Arts in Painting at Hunter College in 2018. She currently works and lives in New York, NY. King is half of the collaborative art duo, Eridan, with NY based artist, Daniel Greer. She was a co-founder and co-curator of artist-run spaces 5th Wall Gallery and Project Space in the Emergency Arts, Las Vegas from 2011-2014. She has had solo exhibitions at Winchester Gallery in Las Vegas, NV (2013), Lower East Side’s Miranda Kuo Gallery in Manhattan, NY (2016), and Shiro Oni Studio in Gunma, Japan (2017) and has participated in a variety of group exhibitions such as London Biennale in Nevada (2012), Ladyfest (2014), Rise Up (2017) and Every Woman Biennial (2019) to name a few. Professionally, King works in Art Administration as a Studio Manager for acclaimed-artist, Sanford Biggers. In 2020, King teamed up with experimental composer, Daniel McKemie and Daniel Greer, to release a collection of improvisational electronic music recordings under the moniker, Research.
