Laurence Myers Reese, 鏡と窓 (El espejo y la ventana), video, 2020
Statement:
Look! It’s a present! Or, is it a UFO?
What survives in the desert?
This feeling is alien. It’s not part of my lived experience
Doesn’t nourishment and sweetness always come at a cost?
A mirage of closeness.
When did it arrive?
The illusion of a suburban fantasy, shaken when confronted with itself.
a mirror, a window
an escape, a return
the trauma of migration
the thrill of white heat
burning skin, bleaching bones
turning into inverse borders
just across the way, you were born
with no name but a cow's
engineered a slot machine to
give new chances.
The body keeps the score.
I don’t remember this being here.
